While it’s uncomfortable to admit, these stories are becoming all too common in churches and ministry organisations.
But we’re not anti-Church. In fact, we’re so much for the Church that we can’t keep watching this happen without playing our part.
Which is why we desire to see the next generation of ministry leaders find holistic rhythms of flourishing. If we can help tomorrow’s shepherds to find deep psychological, emotional, theological, relational, financial and spiritual wells, then those who come under their care will be better served and equipped to deepen in their own faith.
Our wrap around program walks with the next generation, for the long haul, in three key ways:
Finding
We use psychologically robust screening processes to determine a candidate’s suitability for a formal ministry pathway. While theological understanding is crucial, we also believe that an elder’s ‘soft skills’ must be deeply considered at this early stage. We actively encourage high quality candidates, while gently dissuading others if we believe formal ministry would create personal hardship for themselves or the communities they would potentially be leading.
Funding
Rising cost of living, training expenses and counselling/coaching fees are a meaningful reason why future leaders are choosing not to enter church leadership. We remove financial barriers of entry to make sure that tomorrow’s best and brightest are being placed in opportunities which utilise their God given gifts with maximum impact.
Forming
Theological education is a vital piece of future leadership development. But there are other elements that make up an individual’s formation. Ministry leadership is a privilege, but it isn’t always easy. It takes humility, emotional intelligence, joy, practical skills, self-confidence and secure personal relationships. Our psychologists, counsellors and coaches walk with leaders from day one, and for the long haul.
